Media texts tend to fit in to a specific genres, for example films can be classified into romance, comedy, horror and many more. Television shows and music videos can also be sorted into genres, for example soaps, sitcoms, quiz shows and r'n'b, rap and pop. John Fiske, a media theorist stated that 'any programme will bear the main characteristics of its genre but is likely to include features of other genres as well.' This is known as a 'sub genre' an example of this is rom-com (romantic comedy) and slasher.
Genre theory is very important when it comes to our media product as music videos are very generic.
